We live in a culture where pornography is ubiquitous. The majority of men and women have been exposed to pornography or sexually explicit material by the time they turn 18 years old. There is often a learned helplessness when people try to combat pornography compulsion. Because we live in a culture entrenched in pornography, individuals are shaped towards consuming it. It is critical to combat pornography with a better story. In this session, the speaker will share how the Bible's grand redemptive story, integrated with cognitive behavioral therapy techniques, provides a helpful theological framework for biblical sexual formation in the church. After providing the framework, the speaker will walk through with the audience how he engages people's story who are entrenched in pornography.

Learning Objectives

1. Consider the ubiquitous presence of pornography and how it impacts our culture,
2. consider how sexuality fits into the broader story of redemptive history,
3. Consider the cognitive distortions that compulsive porn consumers believe that lead to entrenchment,
4. Consider how to cultivate healthy, God-honoring sexual formation in a church context.

In order to receive continuing education credit, your attendance will be recorded and you will be required to complete an emailed evaluation of the seminar and presenter.

Participants who attend "Developing Biblical Sexual Formation in a Porn-Entrenched Culture" will receive 1.25 NBCC clock hours of continuing education.
